Introduction

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is the fastest land animal, capable of reaching speeds up to 60–70 mph (97–113 km/h) in short bursts. It is a carnivorous mammal mainly found in Africa, known for its incredible speed and agility. Cheetahs are specially adapted hunters that rely on quick sprints rather than strength.

Appearance

Cheetahs have a slim, lightweight body built for speed, with long legs, a flexible spine, and a deep chest. Their coat is golden-yellow with black spots, and they have distinctive black “tear marks” running from the eyes to the mouth. A long tail helps them balance and steer during high-speed chases.

A cheetah can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just a few seconds.
Hunting and Diets

Cheetahs are carnivores that mainly hunt small to medium-sized animals like gazelles and antelopes. They stalk their prey quietly, then sprint at high speed to catch it. After a chase, they need time to rest before eating because the sprint uses a lot of energy.
